China EV makers post mixed October sales as BYD and Xpeng set records
· Automotive & EV · China
China's major automakers reported sharply divergent October deliveries. BYD sold 490,168 new-energy vehicles, up 11% and a year-to-date high, with battery-electric sales topping 300,000 for the first time and a sixth straight month of year-on-year growth. Xpeng passed 50,000 monthly deliveries for the first time, and Leapmotor set a record 106,127 units, its fourth month above 100,000. Geely sold 310,183 vehicles, just 245 short of its monthly record, with exports strong. Chery sold 295,934 vehicles, up 5.3%, with exports above 200,000 for the third time this year. The picture was weaker elsewhere: Nio fell 15.23% to 34,246, ending a 31-month growth streak; Zeekr rose 51.63% year on year but fell 12.72% from September; Huawei's HIMA halved to 33,537; and GWM dropped 15.87% to 120,374, its steepest decline this year.
Why it matters:China is the world's largest EV market, so its monthly delivery data is the clearest signal of whether price competition and export push are still lifting volumes across the sector.
