CBP Proposes Ending Post-Arrival Filing Window for Low-Value Imports
· Beauty & Fashion · United States
U.S. Customs and Border Protection proposed a rule that would require imports valued at $2,500 or less to be filed electronically on or before arrival, eliminating the post-arrival filing window. The rule would also create a new entry type for international mail. The change targets low-value shipments, a channel heavily used by fashion, beauty and e-commerce sellers shipping directly to consumers. If finalized, importers and their logistics partners would need to adjust compliance timing and data processes before goods land.
Why it matters:Tighter low-value import rules would raise compliance burdens and slow direct-to-consumer shipping, reshaping cross-border e-commerce economics for beauty and fashion brands.
Key points
- Threshold covered: imports valued at $2,500 or less
- Filing would be required on or before arrival
- A new entry type would cover international mail
