BMW begins high-voltage battery production in Shenyang
· Automotive & EV · China · Germany
BMW Group has begun producing high-voltage batteries at its Shenyang operations in China. The company says the new cylindrical cells deliver more than 20 percent higher energy density along with up to 30 percent faster charging and greater range. The battery start is part of BMW's localisation of its next-generation electric drivetrain in China, tying cell supply to its Neue Klasse-era models. Producing cells locally in the world's largest EV market supports both cost control and supply security as BMW ramps up next-generation electric vehicles.
Why it matters:Local cell output in China lets BMW couple next-generation EV launches with cost control and supply security in its largest market.
