Kuehne+Nagel posts strong Q3 on AI air freight demand

· Logistics · Switzerland

Kuehne+Nagel reported strong third-quarter results powered by hyperscaler demand for air cargo and productivity gains, the company said. The forwarder is investing up front to win the next wave of customers, including cloud builders and Amazon, through an equity-linked incentive for Amazon aircraft charters, working capital for hyperscaler freight and new warehouse capacity. The results come as the DSV-versus-Kuehne+Nagel race passes another quarter with both reporting. In that comparison, DSV is not realizing Schenker synergies as fast as intended in parts of the combined business and is losing some volumes in a growing Air & Sea market, while cutting headcount in Air & Sea.

Why it matters:The results show air freight demand from cloud and AI infrastructure customers becoming a major profit driver for global forwarders, and highlight how integration execution separates the two largest players.

Key points

  • Hyperscaler air cargo demand and productivity gains drove the quarter.
  • The company is funding Amazon charter incentives and hyperscaler working capital up front.
  • DSV is losing some Air & Sea volumes while cutting headcount in that division.
