BYD launches bigger second-gen Seagull with flash charging
· Automotive & EV · China · Indonesia
BYD has launched the second-generation Seagull with a larger body and flash charging, starting at $9,810. The three variants offer 420 km of range and can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes using the fast-charging technology. The Seagull is BYD's entry-level electric hatchback, and the update brings fast charging to its cheapest segment. Separately, BYD is exporting the flash-charging technology to Indonesia, where its premium DENZA brand is launching the D9 and Z9GT. The moves show BYD pushing its charging capabilities down-market at home while using them to support premium-brand expansion abroad. The pricing keeps the Seagull among the cheapest EVs on the Chinese market and raises pressure on rivals in the entry segment.
Why it matters:Putting five-minute-class charging into the cheapest EV segment raises the competitive bar for entry-level electric cars globally.
