Musk says Tesla-SpaceX merger under consideration
· Politics · United States
Elon Musk said a merger of Tesla and SpaceX is a 'good idea' and that special committees at both companies have been formed to explore a possible combination. Because he is CEO of both and holds large stakes, Musk said he would not take part in those discussions. The remarks came as SpaceX reported its first profit as a public company, with Starlink beating earnings estimates while missing subscriber growth, and revenue lifted by a jump in its AI business. SpaceX shares rose about 4.9% in extended trading. Musk also said he would give a SpaceX share to 'every kid in America'. SpaceX said capital spending could double this quarter as AI investment grows.
Why it matters:A Tesla-SpaceX combination would create a giant spanning electric vehicles, satellites and AI, and tests how public markets value Musk's overlapping empire.
