VW, GAC Aion and Leapmotor cut China EV prices and add LiDAR
· Automotive & EV · China
Volkswagen updated its ID. UNYX 06 and 07 electric models in China with LiDAR and lower entry prices, with the ID. UNYX 07 now starting at 99,900 yuan ($14,860) — the first time Volkswagen has priced a fully electric model in China below 100,000 yuan. GAC Aion opened pre-sales for Ray 7, the first model in its new Ray line aimed at younger buyers, from 128,800 yuan ($19,160) with a CLTC range of up to 702 km. Leapmotor launched the A10s with LiDAR for about $13,800, offering 505 km of CLTC range plus styling and comfort upgrades. Separately, BYD's all-new Han sedan appeared in Chinese regulatory filings, measuring more than 5.1 meters long, 161 mm longer than the Han EV Flash Charging Edition launched in April, as BYD refreshes its core sedans. The moves show intensified price and specification competition in China's mass-market EV segment.
Why it matters:China's mass-market EV segment is being reshaped by rapid price cuts and LiDAR becoming standard, pressuring legacy automakers' margins while raising the technology bar for global competitors.
