Hapag-Lloyd to Exit MSC-Led Asia-South America Service
· Shipping
Hapag-Lloyd will next year exit the vessel-sharing agreement it holds on the Asia-east coast South America trade with MSC and ONE. MSC told customers that "the existing VSA on the Ipanema service will be coming to an end in its current configuration," adding that MSC and ONE remain committed to the service. The Ipanema service connects Asian export hubs with Brazil and neighbouring markets. Hapag-Lloyd's departure reshapes the vessel-sharing arrangement on one of the main east-west southbound trades, leaving the remaining partners to reorganize capacity while Hapag-Lloyd reassesses its Latin America network options.
Why it matters:Alliance reshuffles on the Asia-South America trade change capacity deployment and booking options for shippers, part of a broader realignment of carrier partnerships on north-south routes.
Key points
