Nuclear buildout advances: Texas SMR permit, US fuel funding, Poland early works
· Climate · United States · Poland
Three nuclear developments moved forward, according to World Nuclear News. The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission finished its safety review of the Xe-100 reactor proposed for the Long Mott Generating Station in Texas and said a construction permit announcement will come soon. Separately, eight nuclear fuel technology projects were selected to share up to $50 million in federal funding under a Department of Energy programme supporting research and development of TRU fuel technologies. In Poland, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe applied to the Pomeranian Voivodeship for a permit to start early works for the country's first nuclear power plant, at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Choczewo municipality.
Why it matters:Advanced reactor licensing, domestic fuel R&D and first-of-a-kind plant preparation all move the nuclear supply chain from plans toward construction, the test of whether reactor pledges become operating capacity.
