Rivian Q3 revenue jumps 38% as R2 becomes best-seller
· Automotive & EV · United States
Rivian reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $2.155 billion, up 38% year over year, beating Wall Street expectations, and raised its 2026 guidance. The R2, in its first full quarter of deliveries, is already the company's best-selling vehicle, ahead of the R1 line and the Amazon delivery van. The company also began delivering the first major hardware upgrade to its electric van since production started in 2021: a larger LFP battery pack that adds about 30% more range, plus a new dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. Rivian confirmed in its Q3 shareholder presentation that deliveries of the new van variants started in early October. The results mark a turning point for a company that has been scaling production and cutting costs while moving to a cheaper, higher-volume model line.
Why it matters:Rivian's results suggest its cheaper R2 platform is finding volume, a key test of whether smaller EV makers can reach profitability as the segment's price war intensifies, and the upgraded van strengthens its position in the commercial fleet market.
