Russian drone strike on Dnipro train station kills at least 14
· Security · Ukraine · Russia
A Russian drone strike hit the main railway station in Dnipro, central Ukraine, killing at least 14 people and wounding at least 14 others, including an 11-year-old boy, Ukrainian officials said. Images released by Ukrainian emergency services showed bodies on the platform and rescuers helping victims to safety. Kyiv called the attack "horrific". The strike came as Ukraine and Russia try to uphold a fragile localised ceasefire in Oleshky, a Russian-occupied city where residents have faced months of shortages of food, water and medicine. The truce, brokered with US involvement, had been holding for a third day as a humanitarian aid mission was set to enter the town. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy separately said Ukraine had intelligence of new Russian ballistic missile strikes and needed means to counter them.
Why it matters:The strike shows that diplomacy around localised ceasefires has not stopped long-range attacks on civilian targets, and it raises pressure on Kyiv's allies to supply more air-defence capacity.
