Svolt starts mass production of 100-kWh semi-solid fast-charging packs
· Automotive & EV · China
Svolt has begun mass production of 100-kWh semi-solid battery packs that support 900-volt, 6C fast charging, adding 500 km of range in 12 minutes. The packs sit between today's liquid-electrolyte lithium-ion cells and fully solid-state designs, offering higher energy density and faster charging without a complete technology leap. Mass production, rather than a lab announcement, is the key point: it moves semi-solid chemistry into vehicles at commercial scale. For the industry, faster charging and larger packs raise requirements on charging infrastructure, thermal management and cell supply, and intensify competition among battery makers racing toward solid-state technology.
Why it matters:Semi-solid cells reaching volume production narrow the gap to solid-state batteries and will pressure rivals on charging speed and pack size.
Key points
- The 100-kWh packs support 900-volt, 6C fast charging.
- Svolt claims 500 km of added range in 12 minutes.
- Semi-solid chemistry is positioned between conventional lithium-ion and full solid-state cells.
