AWS Capacity Sold Out Into 2028, Jassy Says

· Tech · United States

Amazon Web Services capacity is mostly booked through at least next year, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said on an Andreessen Horowitz podcast released on Friday. "'26 is obviously at this point sold out. [2027] is largely sold out," Jassy said, adding that the company always reserves a certain amount for on-demand and inference demand. The remarks indicate that cloud demand, driven largely by AI workloads, continues to outrun the capacity hyperscalers can bring online, even as data-center construction accelerates. For cloud customers, that points to continued tight supply and limited room to negotiate on price or guaranteed capacity.

Why it matters:Sold-out cloud capacity into 2028 tells the industry that compute, not demand, is the binding constraint on AI growth, affecting pricing power for hyperscalers and planning for every company building on their platforms.

Key points

  • Jassy said 2026 is sold out and 2027 is largely sold out.
  • Amazon keeps a reserve of capacity for on-demand and inference workloads.
