Robert Ben Garant's Weekly World News Series Raises $2.5M to Film Independently

· Entertainment · United States

Robert Ben Garant, co-creator of 'Reno 911!,' has raised $2.5M to film a full season of a comedy series set in the world of the satirical tabloid Weekly World News, produced independently in California. Garant will serve as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside a frequent 'Reno 911!' collaborator. After three decades working inside the Hollywood system, Garant is financing the show outside it. The raise is a small but concrete example of creators turning to independent financing to produce a full season rather than relying on a traditional network or streamer order.

Why it matters：Independent financing for full seasons is an emerging alternative to network and streamer orders, and its track record will shape how creators fund projects.
