Kenya reports second Ebola death as outbreak reaches four countries
· Health · Kenya · Nigeria
Kenya recorded a second Ebola death on Friday, the health ministry said, describing the 65-year-old woman as a close relative of a Kenyan man who died earlier this month and who developed symptoms during quarantine. Kenya has logged nine cases so far, all traced to its first patient. Nigeria's single confirmed case is a traveller who had visited Uganda and is the wife of a Swiss diplomat; her husband is in isolation without symptoms. Health officials are investigating whether patients in Kenya and Nigeria crossed paths at Uganda's main airport, while Uganda says it has no active cases. The outbreak now spans four countries across eastern, central and western Africa, and a rights group said there is no evidence of community spread in Kenya.
Why it matters:Ebola spreading across borders through air travel is a global public-health risk, and unclear transmission chains complicate containment.
