ADB and Japan sign financing for green ammonia plant in India
· Lubricants & Chemicals · India · Japan
The Asian Development Bank and the Government of Japan have signed financing agreements with AM Green Ammonia (India) Private Limited to help build one of the world's largest plants making ammonia from renewable energy in India, ADB announced on October 15. The item does not disclose the financing amount or the plant's capacity and location beyond India. Green ammonia is produced using renewable-powered hydrogen and is pitched as a lower-carbon feedstock and fuel, drawing interest from chemical and energy buyers. The deal links multilateral and bilateral financiers to a large-scale project, a model that has become common for capital-intensive low-carbon chemicals ventures where commercial offtake is still being established.
Why it matters:Large green ammonia projects are a test case for decarbonising chemical feedstocks, and development-bank backing is often the deciding factor in whether they reach financial close.
