Versant CEO says company unlikely to buy Skydance cable networks
· Entertainment · United States
Versant Media CEO Mark Lazarus said the company, spun off by Comcast/NBCUniversal earlier this year, is unlikely to be a buyer if Skydance looks to sell some of its dozens of cable TV networks. "Buying more cable assets on a large scale would prolong our life but not necessarily make our life better," Lazarus said. His comment comes as Skydance weighs what to do with its cable portfolio and as the industry debates consolidation among legacy cable channels facing cord-cutting. Versant's stance suggests it will not be a consolidator in that market despite its background in cable.
Why it matters:Skydance's cable networks are among the largest assets potentially on the block, and a major cable operator ruling itself out narrows the pool of buyers, shaping how legacy TV portfolios get reallocated as cord-cutting accelerates.
