· Security · Sudan · South Sudan
Sudanese army drones struck mourners and a fuel market in the disputed Abyei border region, killing more than 300 people according to sources, in one of the deadliest single incidents of the conflict. A truck carrying people to a funeral and a market alleged to be supplying fuel to the paramilitary RSF were targeted. Local officials blamed Sudan's military for Monday's attack, which also left dozens injured, and a fire at a nearby fuel depot continued to burn on Tuesday. The Abyei region is disputed between Sudan and South Sudan.
Why it matters:Mass-casualty strikes deepen Sudan's humanitarian catastrophe and complicate efforts to end a war with regional spillover.
