US lets sanctioned 'dark fleet' tankers ship crude
· Energy · United States
The Trump administration is authorizing the sale of sanctioned oil tankers so the vessels can start legitimately shipping crude, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said. Wright also discussed the sharp rise in diesel and gasoline prices and efforts to bring them down, and converting dark fleet ships into legitimate tankers. Representative Nicole Malliotakis said Trump is focused on lowering diesel prices and believes getting Russia to increase diesel exports is key.
Why it matters:Bringing sanctioned tankers into legitimate trade could shift global tanker supply and crude flows, easing or complicating efforts to lower fuel prices.
