South Korea raises travel alert for Saudi Arabia, urges citizens to leave
· Politics · South Korea · Saudi Arabia
South Korea raised its travel advisory for all of Saudi Arabia to Level 3, the second-highest level, and urged its citizens to leave the country, the Foreign Ministry in Seoul said Sunday. The upgraded advisory took effect at 10 p.m. Sunday. The move followed the Houthi attacks on Riyadh's international airport, including a strike that killed 12 people and wounded more than 300. South Korean nationals currently in Saudi Arabia were advised to leave as soon as possible.
Why it matters:A major Asian economy downgrading travel to Saudi Arabia shows how the Houthi attacks are raising security and economic risks for Gulf states and their foreign workers and investors.
