FBI Arrests Another Suspected ShinyHunters Member After Portal Breach
· Cybersecurity · United States
FBI Director Kash Patel announced on October 9 the arrest of another suspected co-conspirator of ShinyHunters, the extortion group that claimed in September to have breached the FBI's jobs portal and stolen sensitive data on nearly all FBI agents and job applicants. Patel said the bureau will keep working with partners to "disrupt what's left of the ShinyHunters group and their associates, no matter where they operate." The FBI has not named the suspect. It is the second arrest linked to the group, following an earlier detention announced after the agency breach.
Why it matters:ShinyHunters has become one of the most prolific extortion brands targeting large organizations, and a breach of the FBI's own portal makes the case a test of whether sustained arrests can degrade such groups faster than they rebuild.
