Volkswagen unveils ID. Tiguan EV, replacing ID.4 and ID.5
· Automotive & EV · Germany
Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Tiguan, an all-electric version of its best-selling nameplate, saying it will replace the ID.4 and ID.5 and go on sale in early 2027. The eSUV offers 58 kWh and 77 kWh battery options in rear- and all-wheel-drive layouts and up to roughly 600 km (372 miles) of range, and will be sold alongside the combustion-engine Tiguan. The move puts VW's biggest volume name onto its electric platform, a central part of the brand's effort to lift EV demand in Europe. It also simplifies a crowded ID line-up that has struggled to match rivals' momentum.
Why it matters:VW is staking its flagship volume name on an EV at a moment when European electric demand needs a lift, and how the ID. Tiguan sells will shape rivals' plans for mass-market electric SUVs.
