Samsung forecasts record Q3 profit of $80bn on AI memory boom
· Politics · South Korea
Samsung Electronics said Thursday its preliminary third-quarter operating profit rose about 783 percent from a year earlier to a record 107.4 trillion won ($80 billion), with revenue up 126.6 percent on-year to 195 trillion won. The jump — the first time operating profit has topped 100 trillion won — was driven by soaring demand for AI memory chips. Compared with the previous quarter, profit also climbed sharply. Samsung's semiconductor unit will pay a special performance bonus to employees in late March or early April 2027, after the plan is put to a shareholder vote in March, according to an internal notice.
Why it matters:Samsung's results underline how the AI boom is reshaping the global chip industry, with memory makers capturing record profits as demand for AI compute accelerates.
