Atlassian warns of critical file-access flaw in eight Data Center products
· Cybersecurity
Atlassian is warning customers about a critical vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-21589, in multiple self-hosted Data Center products including Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket. The flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker to read specific files in each product's web application root directory. An attacker must already know a file's exact name and path and cannot list the directory's contents, which limits but does not remove the risk. The issue affects eight Data Center products that organizations host on their own infrastructure, the deployments common at large enterprises and government agencies that manage sensitive documentation and source code. Atlassian has disclosed the flaw and customers are expected to patch self-hosted instances promptly.
Why it matters:Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket sit at the center of enterprise software development and documentation, so an unauthenticated file-read flaw in self-hosted deployments creates immediate espionage risk and puts pressure on organizations with slow patch cycles.
Key points
- The flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-21589 and affects self-hosted Data Center products.
- Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket are among the affected products; eight in total are impacted.
