· Shipping · South Korea · Japan
Japan's K Line has been linked to two LNG carrier newbuildings at Samsung Heavy Industries worth KRW672.2bn ($494m), with delivery scheduled by end-May 2029. Separately, JP Morgan added two VLGC newbuildings at the same yard, taking its 88,000 cu m programme there to six ships. The orders extend a strong run of gas-carrier contracting at Korean yards.
Why it matters:Continued gas-carrier ordering at Korean yards reflects expectations of long-term LNG and LPG trade growth, tying up shipyard capacity and shaping future fleet supply for charterers and traders.
